Sparse Estimation of Multivariate Poisson Log-Normal Models from Count Data

چکیده
Modeling data with multivariate count responses is a challenging problem due to the discrete nature of the responses. Existing methods for univariate count response cannot be easily extended to the multivariate case since the dependency among multiple responses needs to be properly accommodated. In this paper, we propose a multivariate Poisson log-normal regression model for multivariate count responses by using the latent variables. By simultaneously estimating the regression coefficients and inverse covariance matrix over the latent variables with an efficient Monte Carlo EM algorithm, the proposed model takes advantages of association among multiple count responses to improve the model prediction accuracy. Simulation studies and applications to real world data are conducted to systematically evaluate the performance of the proposed method in comparison with conventional methods.

Sparse Estimation of Multivariate Poisson Log-Normal Model and Inverse Covariance for Count Data
Modeling data with multivariate count responses is a challenge problem due to the discrete nature of the responses. Such data are commonly observed in many applications such as biology, epidemiology and social studies. The existing methods for univariate count response cannot be easily extended to the multivariate situation since the dependency among multiple responses needs to be properly acco...
متن کاملBayesian paradigm for analysing count data in longitudina studies using Poisson-generalized log-gamma model
In analyzing longitudinal data with counted responses, normal distribution is usually used for distribution of the random efffects. However, in some applications random effects may not be normally distributed. Misspecification of this distribution may cause reduction of efficiency of estimators. In this paper, a generalized log-gamma distribution is used for the random effects which includes th...
متن کاملDrift Change Point Estimation in the rate and dependence Parameters of Autocorrelated Poisson Count Processes Using MLE Approach: An Application to IP Counts Data
Change point estimation in the area of statistical process control has received considerable attentions in the recent decades because it helps process engineer to identify and remove assignable causes as quickly as possible. On the other hand, improving in measurement systems and data storage, lead to taking observations very close to each other in time and as a result increasing autocorrelatio...
متن کاملA Multivariate Poisson-Log Normal Mixture Model for Clustering Transcriptome Sequencing Data
High-dimensional data of discrete and skewed nature is commonly encountered in high-throughput sequencing studies. Analyzing the network itself or the interplay between genes in this type of data continues to present many challenges. As data visualization techniques become cumbersome for higher dimensions and unconvincing when there is no clear separation between homogeneous subgroups within th...
متن کاملSelecting the right statistical model for analysis of insect count data by using information theoretic measures.
Researchers and regulatory agencies often make statistical inferences from insect count data using modelling approaches that assume homogeneous variance. Such models do not allow for formal appraisal of variability which in its different forms is the subject of interest in ecology. Therefore, the objectives of this paper were to (i) compare models suitable for handling variance heterogeneity an...
